The Shore of Serenity
Acceptance. Yeah that’s it.
The way I had it figured out is that If you want peace in your life(And I mean real peace), there are of course more ways, like start a family, raise kids, make friends or do some other meaningful activities. But for most people in the modern world these 2 things (I believe) would solve most of their problems; first is acceptance and second is minding your own shit.
In this age of infinite information(not to confuse with knowledge) we are overstimulated, we were never mean to process this much of information. We now have access to almost any information in the world at our fingertips, so much so it leaves us overwhelmed and paralyzed. You can go ahead and look into the science of it(because I’m not gonna discuss that here), but the core is that you might think that having more choices and perspectives will help you in life but also paradoxically it makes you vulnerable to being paralyzed and not taking any action at all. Of course watching a lecture on some topic online or learning a new skill could be helpful for your career and your life but what I’m talking here about is passive consumption like just listening to random podcast which you think will make you smart, scrolling reels, or any kind of passive consumption.
I warn you to especially stay away from the short form content you see on tiktok or instagram and any sort of short form content for that matter, THAT is absolutely rotting your brain. Watching some random person online have or buy something that you want in your life but don’t have currently makes you hate your life even more. Saving a reel, or adding a video to watch later on Youtube, thinking that you’ll give it a revisit in your life won’t do you any good as well. You know that feeling too, you save a reel you think is knowledgeable but you barely take any meaningful learning out of it. Real learning or knowledge isn’t acquired this way. Its a process, a hard one. Or you don’t even scroll reels for knowledge maybe for motivation or you just scroll mindlessly without any intent, but indeed thinking that you’ll find something.
Nonetheless, the point is that, you shouldn’t. Just drop everything. Whatever you’re looking for isn’t there. But what if it is there? Well in that case you can google it, read a book or an article about it or see a lecture, period. If its really worth knowing that much, you’ll go to the heights of effort in order to learn it, wouldn’t you? How much time does it even takes to search that topic on google, or watch a video on youtube? Guess what, you weren’t there to learn some shit, but to just scroll. You never needed that information or peace of advice.
Well, I and you know that too, you’re fucking addicted, to the highs and the lows, the loop, the cycle, the easy scroll and all. No amount of rationality and logic can save you when you’re deep in the hole. You have to break it without reason. Because if you’re addicted to scrolling and you’re looking for reasons to quite scrolling, you’re gonna have a hard time finding them. Even worse, lets say you found the “correct” reasons but you’d still scroll anyway, why? Because you’re fucking addicted. This is how addiction works, and I say it again - no amount of logic, reasoning and willpower can save you from this. Accept it first and it is only then you can move on.
Most of our problems could be solved by just accepting them first. And I mean complete acceptance not surface level. I know its hard, even for me, as I’m writing this, even though knowing about it, its still hard for me to accept the bad things going on in my life currently, and it might as well be for you. But all I and you can do is try, human after all!
